Andela, the developer training and outsourcing company with operations in four African countries is on a roll. Having a high-powered roll call of investors including a US Vice President, the latest to adorn its expanding list of investors is Serena Williams, the 23-time tennis Grand Slam champion. The Serena Ventures, an outfit founded by her in 2014, which remained obscure more by wish, Williams has backed 30 companies across e-commerce, fashion, and social good. She backs companies with diverse leadership, individual empowerment, creativity and opportunity. Significantly, Andela fits the entire bill. It has a diverse team of co-founders and executives and local lead directors in countries where it operates. Andela admits budding African developers into its string of stakeholders and trains them to be competitive both domestically and internationally. Above all, Andela is among the best-funded start-ups in Africa. Series D round which Serena Ventures participated in earlier this year, is one of the largest ever single rounds raised by an Africa-focused tech company and brought the total venture funding raised by the company to $180 million.
