Tanzania to Buy Antiretroviral Drugs from Cipla Uganda

Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan was in Uganda for a two day state visit at the invitation of the Ugandan President. Both the leaders reviewed the potential in bilateral cooperation and advised their Ministers to remove any hurdles to the smooth flow of two- way economic cooperation.

After the meetings between the leaders of Uganda President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and his Tanzanian counterpart, both the countries have agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation. The Heads of State further agreed to collaborate in the area of development of vaccines. Head of state of both the countries also signed two Memoranda of Understanding in the field of Development of the 400KV Masaka-Mutukula-Kyaka-Nyakanazi-Mwanza Transmission Line and on Defense and Security Cooperation.

 Tanzania has also signed an agreement to buy Antiretroviral drugs-ARVS from Cipla Uganda and also import at least 10,000 tonnes of Ugandan sugar. This was revealed in a joint communique issued by Uganda’s State Minister of Foreign Affairs, Henry Okello Oryem and his Tanzanian counterpart, Liberata Mulamula. Effective  from1st July 2022, it was agreed that Tanzania will charge 10 Dollars per 100 Kilometers per truck from Mutukula to Dar es Salaam from Financial Year 2022/2023.
