Mauritius Faces a Steep Increase in Prices; Government Intervention to Arrest the Increase

Prices for goods and services have increased again in Mauritius. The high cost of living shook Mauritius last month, leading to protests and demonstrations. Since last Saturday, public transport has become more expensive. Bus and tram fares have gone up   between 25 and 40%

Prices for goods and services have increased again in Mauritius. The high cost of living shook Mauritius last month, leading to protests and demonstrations. Since last Saturday, public transport has become more expensive. Bus and tram fares have gone up between 25 and 40%.

To arrest the spiraling food prices, the government has already intervened and invested over one billion rupees. It is monitoring the price rise and is consulting with economic and social actors to present the national budget, which is due in a few weeks.
