Preparations are underway for COP 27 to be hosted by Egypt in Sharm El Sheikh next November. A World Bank delegation led by Managing Director of Development Policy and Partnership Mari Pangestu  was in Cairo recently to discuss  the programme and agenda.

Minister of Environment of Egypt Yasmin Fouad received the delegation. Both sides discussed issues to be covered based on    the report prepared by the World Bank on climate and regional development in a number of countries, including Egypt. The proposed initiatives cover water; agriculture; health, management of coastal areas, blue economy, and management of waste, particularly plastic; showcasing the value added derived from waste recycling in the form of green job opportunities, sustainable quality of life and formalization of the informal sector.

The Agenda of COP 27 is expected to cover climate funding, dimensions of coexistence, priorities of developing countries, and updated national contributions of states, goals, and experiences. The minister informed that Egypt plans to display success stories of climate projects including small, medium and large enterprises.
