Eleven major international organizations are sending an alert to West African countries that they will be hit by the worst food crisis. Twenty-seven million people are going hungry and according to these humanitarian groups and 11 million more are at risk if nothing is done by this June

Eleven major international organizations are sending an alert to West African countries that they will be hit by the worst food crisis. Twenty-seven million people are going hungry and according to these humanitarian groups 11 million more are at risk if nothing is done by this June, they maintain. The main causes of the condition are drought, worsening floods, regional conflicts, and, of course, the war in Ukraine.

According to OXFAM, an international NGO, six out of twelve countries, where they operate in West Africa, import wheat from either Ukraine or Russia or from both. Now they cannot import, which would mean shortages.

Recently, the organization held a virtual conference on the food and nutrition crisis in the Sahel and Lake Chad. This was in association with the European Union, the Sahel and West Africa Club, and the Global Network Against Food Crises.
