British Airways resumed the flights to Cairo. The company is said to have reviewed its security measures at the Cairo airport and is satisfied with the arrangement. Britain’s prestigious air carrier suspended flights on last Saturday as a precautionary measure.Egypt is an important tourist attraction for the British and an estimated 415,000 of its nationals visited Egypt in 2018. Even now the airlines maintain that there’s a heightened risk of terrorism against aviation. The airline is taking additional security measures for flights departing from Cairo to the UK.
In its recent news report, www.trendsmafrica.com has reported that British Airways and Lufthansa have announced on Saturday that they were suspending flights to Cairo for unspecified reasons related to safety and security. Though British Airways have announced that the stoppage is going to be for a week, it has started the operations before the announced date. Lufthansa said that it would resume operations from next Sunday. But no official confirmation has been received till date about the resumption of service.
Though Both Airlines were circumspect about the reasons for the cancellation of flights and couched up their responses in hyperboles, it appears that they were taking precautionary measures against Iran’s seizure of a British-flagged oil tanker in the Strait of Hormuz. The escalating tensions stemming from US sanctions on Iran’s economy and oil exports is also another reason for the European airlines to become more cautious in their operations.
