Ethiopian industrial parks boost manufacturing

Ethiopia in its efforts to promote the country as a manufacturing hub in Africa by 2025 has embarked on industrial parks’ construction and commissioning activities in recent years. More than a dozen industrial parks are operational in Ethiopia contributing significantly to the revenues earned. Many more are under construction.

One focus area of cooperation between Ethiopia and China include the construction of industrial parks. Several leading Chinese firms are investing in various industrial hubs, built with Chinese expertise and finance.

Recently, it was reported that Ethiopia has earned 24 million U.S. dollars from a Chinese-built Debre-Birhan industrial park during the first six months of the current Ethiopian Fiscal Year 2021/2022.Most of the revenues earned came from agricultural and textile products produced in the industrial park during the period. The industrial park located 110 km north of Addis Ababa, was constructed by China Communications Construction Company (CCCC) and was inaugurated in March 2019.
