  • Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (Zacc) chairperson Loice Matanda-Moyo has announced that the principles for the whistleblower protection legislation have been approved by the cabinet.

Addressing a press conference in Harare, the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (Zacc) chairperson Loice Matanda-Moyo has announced that the principles for the whistle blower protection legislation have been approved by the cabinet.

The legislation would protect the whistle-blowers from being victimised. This will   encourage more people to come forward and testify against  corruption suspects. Justice Matanda-Moyo added that the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) will this year clear the backlog of the cases that were still to be set down. It was reported last year by Matanda-Moyo that 180 corruption cases were still to be prosecuted with only 12 convictions. There has been public outcry about the slow progress of the prosecution cases.

She informed that the sub-committee on asset recovery will be acting on some cases that are before the courts for confiscation of proceeds for corruption. Political parties also will commit to preventing corruption and promote integrity among their members. Similarly, General compliance will be encouraged in the corporates for good governance by the private sector and public enterprises, she informed.
