Abubakar is seeking votes pitching  five core areas, such as  security, economy, education and devolving more resources and powers to the federating units. Abubakar said that the Nigerian economy has been sinking because of the wrong policies pursued by the government.

There are also people who support the plea that after two terms under Buhari, a Muslim from the north, southerners want the presidency to rotate back to their region. It may be noted that under an unofficial deal among the political elites, Nigeria’s presidency is expected to “rotate” between north and south. This power sharing is recommended to balance the rule between Muslims, predominantly in North and that of Christians in the South.  This is an unofficial power sharing between the two regions to maintain peace and harmony.
