The hacker group, N4aughtysecTU from Brazil that claimed responsibility has also placed an extortion demand to be paid within seven days.The alleged extortion demand according to reports in various media is .at between R223-million and R225-million.The group has said that it has gained access to millions of South Africans’ ID numbers, banking details, and credit scores.
TransUnion has informed that the company has immediately taken action, engaged cyber security and forensic experts, and launched an investigation. It has also reported that an isolated server holding limited data from their South African business was impacted.

.The global consumer credit bureau announced that it will be offering “impacted consumers” an annual subscription to its identity protection product, TrueIdentity, free of charge. The free service will cost the company R27-billion, to offer protection to all 54 million hacked accounts.
