The 74-year-old Museveni, the President Of Uganda will face 36-year-old pop star turned leading opposition figure, Bobi Wine in 2021 national elections.“On behalf of the people of Uganda I am challenging you (Museveni) to a free and fair election in 2021,” the singer, announced at an event in Kampala recently ending the long drawn speculation that he will file for nomination for the elections.

Wine’s attire, a red tie and his signature red beret, which he says is a “symbol of resistance”, is being copied by dozens of his supporters. His songs about social justice became wildly popular with young Ugandans. Some of his lyrics like “freedom fighters become dictators,” directly point at the serving President. The Pop singer became a member of parliament in 2017 and emerged as a the leading critic of Museveni, who is keen on a sixth term in the presidential office. Earlier this year Uganda’s Supreme Court lifted the age cap of 75 for presidential contenders, paving the way for Museveni to run again in 2021.The authorities have retaliated by repeatedly arresting him and frustrating his efforts to perform. He was also slapped with treason charges, among others..”After 33 years, the Museveni dictatorship is very weakened. Indeed every dictatorship has an expiry date,” Wine told the Press.
