Angolan president João Lourenço unveiled key policies he would implement upon his re-election to be held in August 2022. The main planks of his policies are Investment in the diversification of the market economy, fight against corruption and toning up supply of public services in health, among other things.
As Lourenço delivered a speech at the launch of the Political Agenda of his party, MPLA, he clisted out economic developments accomplished during his tenure. Angola’s ruling party in last December confirmed President Lourenço’s bid for a second mandate. Angola is the third-biggest oil producer in Africa. It was an ex-colony of Portugal.
The present incumbent was first elected in 2017 after serving as Defence minister under president José Eduardo dos Santos. The economy of the West African country, despite his assertions of development works, is not in pink of health. Despite its oil wealth, the country has not come out of the recession. The volatility in the oil prices, which had happened in recent times, had largely affected its nibbling economy. Angola’s oil-driven economy has remained in a limbo since 2016.
