Confusion prevailed on Monday at the border between Uganda and Rwanda after the border was reopened. The border between the two countries has been closed since February 2019 and was reopened only last week. Rwandans are complaining that they were not allowed to cross the border. On the other hand, Ugandans are   reporting delays at the Gatuna border post.

In the midst of prevailing confusion, there are people who welcomed the reopening. They opined that it was really a good start. Trade between the two countries collapsed following the closure of the border in 2019.  Mutual distrust and accusations of espionage and political meddling were pointed out as the main reasons for the closure of the border.

Meanwhile, Ugandan authorities informed that priority was being given to trucks. They pointed out that delays are caused mainly because authorities were  closely following Covid protocols before allowing the traffic to cross the border .
