Ongoing clashes between the DRC’s army and fighters of the terror group M23 have led to many fleeing the country to safer places.
Inhabitants from six villages in The Democratic Republic of Congo’s east – including Bukima, Nyesisi, and Ruhanga – have fled from places where the clashes were taking place between the Congolese army and M23. An estimated 2000 people, Sarah Kasigwa, had been left homeless and traumatized.
The incident took place near Virunga National Park, a UNESCO heritage site. The park is \known for its large gorilla population. The M23, also calls itself the “Revolutionary Army of Congo”. It is a former rebellion group of Congolese backed by neighbouring states.
