Ethiopia’s north has been in the grip of a civil war since November 2020 which had taken a heavy toll on human lives. Thousands have been killed and some 350,000 Tigrayans are starving in refugee camps. There are obstacles to AID agencies to carry out rehabilitation works in the affected areas and refugee camps because of frequent fighting.
In the fight against Tigray rebels Abi’s government had to depend on foreign partners, such as the United Arab Emirates, China and Turkey, which provided drones to reinforce the government forces. Using those weapons, the Federal Government forces could inflict heavy losses on the advancing Tigryan forces. Fresh efforts initiated by the US, the UN and AU which initially had given a ray of hope, are seemingly losing its steam.
