South African President Cyril Ramaphosa is back to work spending a week in isolation. He tested positive for Covid recently.

Ramaphosa is fully vaccinated. Recently, he felt unwell after taking part in   the state memorial service of  former president FW de Klerk in Cape Town, who died recently.  The memorial service was on December 12.

After being indisposed, Ramaphosa self-isolated in Cape Town.  He was being monitored by the South African Military Health Service. While in isolation for a week, he delegated all responsibilities to Deputy President David Mabuza for a whole week. It is still not clear whether the President was infected with the Omicron coronavirus variant. The government sources did not reveal in detail the type of infection. Omicron variant cases have been  reported in large numbers from South Africa. South Africa is a worst hit country of the Covid-19  pandemic in general  with more than 3.3 million infections  and more than 90,000 deaths.
