The World Bank Group has approved an International Development Association (IDA) grants and guarantees amounting to $420 million to boost Mozambique’s Electricity sector.The grant will be utilised to improve the transmission capacity for domestic and regional markets as well as increase electricity generation capacity through private sector investment. A Norwegian Trust Fund will also co-finance the project with a grant of $24 million.
The Temane Regional Electricity Project (TREP)is part of the transmission backbone of Mozambique expected to boost generation and transmission of power within Mozambique and strengthen regional connectivity to the Southern African Power Pool (SAPP) . The project will also support private investment of around $750 million for generation. The project will play a critical role in increasing opportunities for power trade among SAPP countries.
