Germans developing digital skills in Mali

·        Orange and the German Cooperation are launching an “Orange Digital Center” in Bamako, an ecosystem entirely dedicated to the development of digital skills and innovation in Mali  

·        The Orange Digital Center will have four strategic programs of the Orange group, such as  coding school (Orange Digital Kalanso), a FabLab Solidaire -one of the Orange Foundation’s digital manufacturing workshops, an Orange Fab start-up accelerator and Orange Ventures Africa, the Orange Group investment fund

·        The center will engage in   digital training  of young people – 90% of which are practical

 

 

 

Orange and the German Cooperation are launching an “Orange Digital Center” in Bamako, an ecosystem entirely dedicated to the development of digital skills and innovation in Mali.

The Orange Digital Center will have four strategic programs of the Orange group. These include  a coding school (Orange Digital Kalanso), a FabLab Solidaire -one of the Orange Foundation’s digital manufacturing workshops, an Orange Fab start-up accelerator and Orange Ventures Africa, the Orange Group investment fund. These facilities are provided  free of charge. The center will engage in   digital training  of young people – 90% of which are practical. The young population will be  imparted skills in  start-up acceleration. They will also be guided  in project implementation and investment.

The Orange Digital Centers will allow sharing of global experiences and expertise between countries. They will   follow a simple and inclusive approach to improve young people’s employability and encourage innovative entrepreneurship and promote the local digital ecosystem including content creation. There are programs aimed at  the digital transformation of universities in Mali to equip students to acquire higher level of digital capabilities. . An Orange Digital Center Club will be installed in each university in the region.

Orange and the German Cooperation conducted under the aegis of  GIZ are working together as part of a development partnership, which GIZ is implementing on behalf of the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). This initiative fully embodies the commitment of the two organizations in imparting quality education, gender equality,  decent work and economic growth, innovation etc  Orange Digital Centers have already been opened in  countries including Tunisia, Senegal, Ethiopia, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Jordan, Morocco, and Mali.

Orange is present in 18 countries in Africa and the Middle East and has more than 130 million customers at of 31 March 2020. With 5.8 billion euros of revenues in 2020, Orange MEA is the first growth area in the Orange group. Orange Money, its flagship mobile-based money transfer and financial services offer is available in 17 countries and has more than 50 million customers.
