Nacala Logistics is building a container yard at Limbe Train Station in Blantyre, Malawi  at a cost of $5.5 million spread over 30,000 square meters. The yard, with a capacity to hold 1,200 containers at a time hosting multiple locomotives  is expected to reduce time taken in offloading cargo.

According to Mr.Nacala Logistics Master Engineer Chrispin Kapalamula , the railway line with a capacity to hold 40 wagons will facilitate seamless offloading and loading of cargo. The yard will also have an administration building, which will house shipping agents and terminal administrators. To be operational by September this year the port will help Nacala Logistics transport its containerized cargo from the port of Nacala in Mozambique into Blantyre. Logistics experts point out that the project will increase the turnaround time for locomotives that will facilitate imports and exports. The dry port will allow trains to turn quicker enabling more trains to come to Malawi.

The Nacala Logistics Corridor  a mega-enterprise has been  linking areas in Southeast Africa through the creation and management of railways, highways, ports and airports, which directly serve Mozambique and Malawi, and indirectly to Zambia and Zimbabwe.
