The country has come out with many schemes to bring people on board at the care centers. Foremost, it gave the caregivers a two-week ultimatum to get vaccinated. If they do not fall in line, they would not be covered in case of infection. The other stipulation was that only vaccinated vendors would be allowed to sell goods to the general public. That rule also holds well in the tobacco and cotton sales rooms. The body that regulated the grain trade said that it would only buy goods from vaccinated farmers. These dictates had a telling effect. There are now serpentine queues in front of the health centers. But nothing much is happening because of the paucity of vaccines.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa earlier warned that those who refused the vaccine would be denied certain public services. According to health experts, Zimbabwe has entered a third deadly wave of the coronavirus, with more than 83,000 confirmed cases and 2,600 deaths. Its next door neighbor South Africa is in the grip of a third wave, which id further compounded by widespread arson and looting.
