The 1,174-carat gem, discovered on June 12, is the world’s third largest diamond ever discovered in human history. Botswana extracted another exceptional stone, a few days ago on June 1, which had engaged a lot of interests among diamond connoisseurs. The diamond having 1,098-carat was extracted on on June 1 belonged to the Debswana company, jointly owned by the government and South African diamond maker De Beers
The latest stone is ranked third “in the hierarchy of large stones. Botswana is a leader on the world’s largest stone scene. It has six of the world’s largest diamonds.
President Mokgweetsi Masisi hailed the discovery of the gem and described it as a fascinating one. Diamonds are discovered very frequently in Southern African country. The largest known diamond is the “Cullinan”, over 3,100 carats, discovered in South Africa in 1905.
