Egypt signed a technical cooperation with South Sudan, for preparing a feasibility study for the construction of the multi-purpose Wau Dam in South Sudan.  This was announced by the Egyptian Ministry of Irrigation. The dam will be built over River Siwi , one of the main tributaries of the Jur River in western South Sudan.

The multi-purpose Wau Dam project aims to generate 10.40 megawatts of electricity. It will also provide drinking water to about 500 thousand people and will irrigate thousands of acres of land.

The Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation carried out integrated technical and economic studies for the project with the assistance of experts from the National Water Research Center to prepare hydrological and hydraulic studies. Also, geological, geotechnical, construction and environmental studies were also conducted by the same organizations.

The project is a part of Egypt’s efforts to achieve stability for the people in the region, by solving drinking water problems and protecting them from the dangers of floods, such as the cooperation between Egypt and Tanzania to build the Rovinji Dam.
