Ghana planted over 5 million trees in an effort to preserve and protect the country’s forest cover and the environment.  President Nana Akufo  led the drive to mark Green Ghana Day. Millions of seedlings and plants were distributed to people for planting.

Individuals and organizations throughout the country were  involved in the tree planting celebrations.

Ghana’s Lands Minister Samuel Abdulai Jinapor described the event as a great achievement for the West African country. It is estimated that Ghana’s forest areas have been depleted by 80% since 1900. Massive planting of trees took place, particularly  in degraded land.
