Malian soldiers took the president and prime minister by force yesterday (Monday) to the Kati military camp, a few kilometres from Bamak, the capital city.  The development has built up a deep crisis in the city, which has been undergoing instability in political administration. Some sections of military officials were unhappy with the new government announced by the transitional authorities recently.

Still a lot has to come out in the present state. In the meantime, a government official confirmed that the heads of the transitional executive, President Bah Ndaw and Prime Minister Moctar Ouane, had been taken to Kati, the centre of Mali’s military apparatus.

It may be recalled that President-elect Ibrahim Boubacar Keïta was forcibly taken by coup colonels on 18 August 2020 to announce his resignation.  Reports indicate that the same colonels are at work even now.  The transitional Prime Minister had indicated that he had been taken under duress by soldiers to the home of President Ban Ndaw on Monday.

The international missions issued  an advisory sensing further troubles in the country plagued by political uncertainty. Mali saw its fourth coup since independence in August 2020.  The events came just hours after the announcement of a new government.   The government is still dominated by the military. But a section of the officers seem to be not happy with the announcement of the new government.
