According to the trade statistics compiled by the International Trade Center China is Gabon’s biggest trading partner. The data reveals that Gabon has achieved a cumulative trade surplus of US$16.3 billion between 2009 and 2020 with China, which constitutes almost 30% of the country’s trade surplus over the period under 2009 to 2020.
China imported from Gabon at an estimated annual rate of 44%. China’s share in total export of Gabon was 63% in 2019. Of that 74.8% of the products sold during 2019 was hydrocarbons, followed by wood and other products.
The United States was Gabon’s second most important partner. With the US, Gabon has a surplus of around US$11 billion ( period between 2009 and 2020). The other major trading partners of Gabon are Japan, Australia, India, Spain, South Korea, Malaysia, Italy and a surprising entry into the list is for Trinidad and Tobago, with which Gabon has a trade surplus of US$9 billion over the period. Significantly, France, the country’s former colonial ruler is not appearing in the 10 most traded countries of Gabon
