Chadian President Idriss Deby Itno (68) , who has been in power for 30 years and was reelected very recently (last week) with a thumbing vote share of 79.32% died on Tuesday. He sustained injuries while on a visit to trouble affected places, where his army was fighting against the rebels over the last week end.
Idriss Deby Itno was provisionally announced as the winner by the national electoral body for another six year term. He already served long 30 years as president. His recent win was to be formally confirmed by the Constitution Court.
Mr Déby, a career military officer who came into power in 1990 after a coup, was promoted himself to the rank of Field Marshal last August.
As per the report, the head of state had visited the frontline in an area that lied between his army and a column of rebels, who had launched an offensive from rear bases in Libya on the election day- April 11.The rebels, whom the army claimed to have defeated in the fighting, had said in a statement that Mr. Déby had been wounded in the fight. But , they maintained that the information had not been confirmed by official sources.
