Construction work has re-started on Seychelles’ first six-star tourism — a US$100 million development work- at the Waldorf Astoria Platte Island resort. The property will be ready for commissioning by 2023. This was revealed by Seychelles’ Island Development Company (IDC).
The Hilton group has signed the management agreement for the new resort under the luxury brand Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts. Platte Island, where the property is coming up, is under the management of Seychelles’ Islands Development Company (IDC).
The IDC confirmed that the company had stopped work on the project after the last French developer left. The work has recommenced with a new developer. He in turn is associated with investors in Abu Dhabi. The complex will have also staff quarters, staff facilities, water, electricity and sewerage.
IDC currently owns 20 percent of the development, while the investors who have a lease for 70 -years own 80 percent. The island lies just over 130 km south of Mahe – the main island of the 115 islands archipelago.
