Active telephone lines fall in Nigeria

·        Analysis of the NCC data of Nigeria showed that number of active telephone lines has  fallen in January this year as compared to December 2020

·         In absolute terms, there were 204.4 million in December 2020, which fell to 200.2 million by January 2021

·          The NCC data indicates that MTN, Airtel, Globacom and 9mobile lost 4.3 million subscribers. The tele-density also fell by 2.55 per cent- from 107.1 per cent in December 2020 to 104.8 per cent in January

Analysis of the NCC data of Nigeria showed that the number of active telephone lines has  fallen in January this year as compared to December 2020. In absolute terms, there were 204.4 million in December 2020, which fell to 200.2 million by January 2021.  The NCC data indicates that MTN, Airtel, Globacom and 9mobile lost 4.3 million subscribers. The tele-density also fell by 2.55 per cent- from 107.1 per cent in December 2020 to 104.8 per cent in January.

Internet subscription was also affected.   The number of internet users has  dropped by 3.1 million users. In December 2020, there were 154.3 million Internet users via the narrow  band -GSM platforms- which was dropped in January to 151.2 million. Of that, MTN lost 1.37 million subscribers. Its Internet subscriber base  in December 2020 was 65.3 million,  as against 63.9 million in January while  Airtel lost 1.25 million- from 41.3 million in December 2020 to 40 million, a month after. Globacom’s count was reduced by 110,888 subscribers, having dropped from 40.1 million to 39.9 in a month. 9mobile.
