Carrefour Kenya launched a new store in Kwale County, taking the total number of outlets of the retail major to eleven. The new store at the Centrepoint Mall in Diani is the retailer’s second outfit outside Nairobi. It is planning to set up two more retail shops in the coastal region.
The improved revenue streams were mostly due to better compliance and not by increasing the rates of charges and fees. Also, more businesses in the county regained their footing after the lengthy downturn due to the Covid-19 pandemic. People renewed their liquor licenses as well as business permits, which also added to the increased revenue of the county. It collected Sh15.6 million by way renewing liquor licenses up from the Sh6.9 million collected in the same period last year. Sh24.79 million was collected as rent from markets, stalls and shops. Sh16.9 million was collected on housing rent in the various houses owned by the county. The county collected Sh59 million from hospitals against their Sh250 million target.
During the last six months, the county collected Sh1.06 million for ground rent up from Sh422,961 collected in the previous year. The increased income was partly due to the automated systems put in place by the county, which eliminated pilferages.
