A four-day high-level meeting of the Ethio-Djibouti tourism forum was held in Addis Ababa recently (9- 12 February ). The Forum meeting attended by ministers of tourism and other officials from both sides, discussed ways and means to promote strategic partnership between the two countries
Ethiopia and Djibouti have a strong cultural and people-to-people relationship. Both countries have abundant natural, cultural and historical resources to attract international tourists with the fully electrified railway network which connects Addis Ababa and Djibouti. This is an added advantage to promote tourism. Both countries realize that tourism cannot be accomplished by a single country, rather it needs coordinated efforts. Organizing such forums is critical to use opportunities and to fight challenges together.
Ethiopia is a great civilization which has historical and diversified culture and has plenty of UNESCO registered heritages. Djibouti has also a wonderful tourism site and the partnership between the two nations will further unlock the sector since tourism now established itself as the key economic element in Horn of African countries.
