THE European Union (EU) pledges its support to Tanzania

Head of THE European Union (EU) Delegation to Tanzania, Manfred Fanti has pledged the EU’s commitment to continue supporting Tanzania in its efforts to improve the business and investment climate. He also assured the EU’s support to attract more investors from EU countries to invest in the country.

 Manfred Fanti expressed this commitment during his meeting with the Minister of State in the President’s Office (Investment), Prof Kitila Mkumbo. He added that the EU investor sentiment about Tanzania was very upbeat. He assured that he will continue to work closely with the government to safeguard the existing interests of these investors and attract even more investors to come and invest in Tanzania. He hailed the efforts by the fifth phase government under the leadership of President Dr John Magufuli in improving the legal, policy and institutional frameworks to create a business-friendly environment that will attract more new investors and encourage existing ones to expand their investment.

During the talks, Prof Mkumbo and the envoy also discussed specific areas of cooperation. Potential sectors such as textile and mining industries; livestock and fisheries products, processing, energy production and distribution etc were identified for investment co-operation.

 Prof Mkumbo also met with Ms Lianne Houben, Deputy Ambassador of the Netherlands in Tanzania, and discussed priority areas for improvement to promote Dutch investment in Tanzania. The discussions covered improving a framework for receiving and addressing investors related issues, addressing the skills gap issue to meet investors’ specific professional and technical skills requirements and so on..
