Chinese state-owned Sinohydro Bureau 11 Co. Ltd has finished work on improving the road network in the northern Mozambican city of Lichinga. The company worked on 15.32 km of roadway, widening a thoroughfare in Lichinga and building four byways.
The improvements, according to official sources, will greatly ease flows of traffic in the city, forming the basis for faster economic
development by ensuring speedy movement of goods. The Chinese are involved in several infrastructure projects in Mozambique. Despite the disruptions in the economy due mainly to the pandemic, the project was completed well within the time.
Despite extreme weather and the novel coronavirus epidemic, China and Mozambique’s bilateral cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) has deepened. China has become an important financier and builder in Mozambique. Several major transportation infrastructure projects like the Maputo Bay Bridge, the EN6 Highway, the Nacala Corridor Railway, and the Beira fishing port have been completed and put into operations.
