Egypt and Japan explores ways to expand bilateral ties.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and Japanese counterpart Toshimitsu Motegi discussed ways and means of expanding the bilateral relations, global and regional issues of mutual relevance. According to a press release, Japan has expressed its keenness to enhance the Arab-Japanese dialogue, under the Egypt presidency of Arab League.Japan is the largest development partner for Egypt according to sources. Both the ministers discussed the potential to enhance the development of economic, investment and trade relations.

 The discussions also covered the construction of the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), and the latest repercussions of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic. It may be recalled that in September 2020, Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah el Sisi directed the government to name a new road axis located east Cairo after former Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe and also inaugurated the Egyptian-Japanese University for Sciences and Technology in Alexandria.
