Trouble is brewing in Somalia. People took to streets in the   capital city of Mogadishu shouting slogans against President Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed for delaying the country’s legislative elections. The conscious delay in holding the election is purportedly for pushing his candidature once again for the general election to be held in 2021.

While the protest marches are going on, there are reports that clashes are taking place between protestors and security forces. What delayed the holding of the election to be held this month was the lack of consensus on the composition of the electoral board to hold the election.

As reported by www.trendsnafrica.com recently Somalia severed its relationship with Kenya, its neighbor accusing it of interfering in Somalia’s sovereignty. The trigger for the animosity was Kenya hosting the President of Somaliland, which is a breakaway state not recognized  Somalia. Recently, Somalia government has asked its diplomats to return  from Kenya and Kenyan envoys in Somalia to leave the country within seven days. Somalia feels that the current leadership of Kenya is working to drive the two sides apart. But Kenya denied the accusations..

The recent visit of Somaliland President Musa Bihi Abdi to Nairobi since 2006 was the flash point. Kenyan government maintains that it has no diplomatic presence in Somaliland but was keen to broaden the trade ties.
