Mercedes-Benz has announced its plans to set up a new passenger vehicle assembly plant in Egypt. Explaining the proposed move, Markus Schäfer, member of the divisional board of Mercedes-Benz Cars for production and supply chain said, “Egypt is an attractive and competitive location for production and supporting logistics. With the planned local assembly, we are confident to be able to expand our market position,” He further added that his company was willing to share its experience and expertise to support Egypt in developing modern mobility concepts. Currently, Mercedes-Benz retail network in Egypt comprises authorised sales and after-sales enterprises in Cairo, Giza, Alexandria, and Hurghada.
Though there is no clarity about which models would be produced at the facility, the proposed passenger car assembly plant would be in collaboration with a local business partner.
