As expected and reported by www.trendsnafrica.com yesterday, Ivory Coast’s electoral commission officially  declared   Alassane Ouattara as the President. He had won a third term in office with over 94% of the votes.   Two of his two main opponents boycotted the election since they felt that his candidacy was illegal.

The voter turnout was 53.9%. However, the opposition  claims that only 10% of Ivorian voters took part in the polling. Supporters of President Ouattara are celebrating his landslide victory and the winning streak of the party -RHDP.

As if things were not still  settled, the opposition parties maintain Outtara is no longer president, and announced they would form a transitional government.

The opposition parties and a few other groups announced the creation of the National Transitional Council,  which will be   led by Mr. Henri Konan Bedie.  They have called for civil disobedience and exhorted the Ivorian people to remain mobilized until the final victory.  The Ivorian government has accused the opposition of conspiracy against the state and threatened with legal action against the perpetrators of trouble.  The government has instructed the Abidjan’s district attorney to prosecute the people behind the act of vandalism. The authorities are cautious since civil unrest that shook the country after the 2010 elections  was responsible for the death of over 3 000 people.
