The government of Ghana has acquired shares of Bharti Airtel, worth US$25million.The deal is expected to enable the government to acquire 100% shares of Airtel Ghana Ltd. including the acquisition of customers, assets, and agreed liabilities. In a statement to the Bombay Stock Exchange, Airtel reported that both the sides are in advanced stages of discussion to close the deal and the transfer of AirtelTigo, a joint venture between Bharti Airtel and Millicom International Cellular, operators of Tigo in Ghana with a customer base of approximately 10 million in Ghana. The two entities merged in 2017, emerging the second-largest telecom operator in Ghana at the time. Airtel has a non-controlling 49.95 percent stake in AirtelTigo.
