Facebook MarketPlace will be rolled out from Ethiopia. It will be introduced gradually and by November end, this would become available to all Ethiopians irrespective of where they are located.  The platform offers a convenient destination where people can find, buy and sell items from others in their local communities. Facebook feels that it would considerably help the local communities in the East African country to buy and sell products locally.

Facebook Head of Public Policy for East & Horn of Africa Mercy Ndegwa said that   the specialized product  would complement the growing e-Commerce market in Ethiopia. He said that a sizable number of Ethiopians are even now buying and selling through Facebook. The introduction of Facebook MarketPlace will help more people to use the platform for their e-commerce needs.

Facebook Marketplace is an open exchange helping users to  buy and sell new and pre-owned items by listing their products and services. That enables them to get access to local market. Users can browse the whole Marketplace, select categories, check-in on groups, or go directly to stores they like.  It is a peer-to-peer platform, done through Messenger, whenever one has to buy and sell products.
