Gambian business companies have expressed their concerns about them not getting big businesses in their own country. Most of the bids for the projects floated by the government are won by international bidders to make the local businesses feel discriminated against in their own country.
This concern was expressed by local businesses during a recently held training program organized by GFS Business Development and sponsored by the National Authorizing Officer Support Group (NAOSU) with help from the European Union (EU). The training was aimed at orienting consultants and contractors on EU tendering, finance and contract issues.
The training program imparted business entities and consultants the procurement processes and how to bid for tenders floated by the Gambian government. The international firms usually get most of the big bids in The Gambia, since they are well versed in bidding for projects across the world. The effort of the Gambian government is to equip and empower the local businesses to bid successfully for the local projects and implement them successfully. The training program has exposed them to the loopholes that disqualify them from getting contracts.
