The United Nations (UN) Acting US Envoy for Libya said that only those who truly carry the best interest of Libya will be welcome to participate in the forward-moving inter-Libyan political dialogue, scheduled to take place in Tunisia in early November. Those who come forward for the peace dialogue should not have any political ambition or any high government positions in mind.

The peace dialogue which will take place in the neighboring country –Tunisia- will begin on 26 October by videoconference in light of the covid-19 pandemic.   The in-person discussions are  scheduled for early November.  The dialogue monitored by the UN will bring together several members of the High Council of State (west) and the Tobruk Parliament (east). The talks will also include participants selected by the UN.

Libya is passing through a severe political crisis.  One the one side is the UN-recognized and Tripoli-based Government of National Unity in the West. The East is controlled by Marshal Khalifa Haftar, who has undermined the political process since the Skhirat agreements in Morocco in December 2015.   The East unsuccessfully attempted to control the West between April 2019 and June. The talk is widely expected to bring some type of truce between the warring groups, which has led to instability in the administration.
