To serve the West Africa sub-region, US aircraft manufacturer, Boeing, is exploring the possibility of setting up a Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facility in Ghana. The company suffered a major setback when its aircraft 737 Max orders were cancelled after two deadly accidents and faced cancellation of orders and compensation to clients. The proposed MRO facility in Ghana is expected to deepen its footprints in Africa, particularly in the West Africa region.

Speaking about the development, Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC), Yofi Grant, said that GIPC had discussions with Boeing for setting up an office in Ghana to service planes in the sub-region and also in Africa. In West Africa, a number of airlines have Boeing planes in their fleet.  Air Peace and Arik Air of Nigeria as well as Asky Airlines, of Togo have significant numbers of Boeing equipment. Global automobile brands like VW, Nissan, Toyota, and Sinotruck have already set up their presence in Ghana. Nissan and Toyota are also expected to open their own plants this year in the country.
