French President Emmanuel Macron and Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta were present at the signing of three infrastructure contracts in Kenya awarded to French groups to be undertaken in Kenya. The signing ceremony has taken place at the Elysee Palace, Paris recently.
The two heads of states also had private talks without the help of aides. The French president also hosted a banquet in honor of the visiting Kenyan leader. A number of agreements were signed on water, infrastructure and energy. A major road contract worth Euro 1.6 billion to be undertaken by Vinci was also signed.
East Africa’s biggest economy, Kenya, has long and cordial relations with France, which the latter is trying to leverage to enhance its presence in Africa. In March 2019, Emmanuel Macron visited Kenya. It was the first official trip by a French head of state to Kenya since independence.
