· The railway’s revenue had increased by 45 percent in 2019 compared to that of 2018 and has seen a rise of 51.38 percent in the first half of 2020, compared to the same period of the previous year
· The 756-km Ethiopia-Djibouti railway went operational in January 2018
· It is considered to be Africa’s first fully electrified trans-boundary railway and has been giving both passenger and freight services
The Ethiopia-Djibouti Standard Gauge Railway has seen a 51 percent rise in revenues, in the first half of 2020, despite the pandemic.
The railway’s revenue had increased by 45 percent in 2019 compared to that of 2018 and has seen a rise of 51.38 percent in the first half of 2020, compared to the same period of the previous year.
The flagship megaproject is a joint venture of Ethiopia, Djibouti and China. Ethiopia has also launched a refrigerated train-route on the railway and has been exporting fruits and vegetables afresh to Europe and to the rest of the world. This facility was launched in August this year
