As South Africa will open its borders on October 1,  following the nation’s significant drop in daily new coronavirus infections. Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula visited Cape Town International Airport to check on preparations.

There are conditions for the entry of people from other countries to South Africa.  One must have a certification that about 72 hours one has undergone the test and tested Covid negative. However, airport companies do not believe that passengers would return immediately. The process, they say, is going to be long and hard to get passenger confidence back. There are also airline companies, which have closed down their operations and are even undergoing liquidation.

Only two airports will be allowed to let locals travel abroad and receive foreign visitors from countries deemed non-high-risk. They are Johannesburg’s OR Tambo, and King Shaka.  South Africa, so far has conducted 4,083,757 coronavirus tests reporting 665,188 confirmed cases with 594,229 and 16,206 deaths.
