This was announced by Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Ezz El-Din won the majority of votes in the elections held on 14 September, gaining 49 out of a total 54 ballots. This was the highest number of votes obtained by any candidate from the UN’s various geographical regions.
The elections were the first to be held by the Council in its new session in New York. The election is a reflection of Ezz El-Din’s competence and diplomatic experience, as well as the latter’s extensive academic experience in international public law and international human rights law.
