The newly released broadband policy of Rwanda reveals that the country is gearing up to adopt the 5th Generation mobile network to drive its digital economy. The 5G technology once established is expected to offer ultra-high-capacity broadband and facilitate mobile and fixed wireless connectivity and services.

The estimated investment for the implementation of the ambitious policy is around Rwf200 billion. The major chunk of the investment is expected to come from the private sector. The government will provide catalytic seed funding. The objective of the plan is to generate growth and access to efficient broadband services and also lead to broader high-speed fiber connections nationwide connecting more homes, businesses, public institutions, schools, and hospitals.
