Kenya is focussing on tourism as a major source of revenue and expects by 2027, tourist arrivals will touch 10 million by 2027. Disclosing this to the media, recently, the East African country’s Chairperson of the Board of Tourism Board Francis Gichaba, said the country was strategizing for making major breakthroughs in the tourism sector. The marketing of the country as a major tourist attraction is being revamped.

Kenya as of 2022 had close to 1.5 million people coming to its shores as tourists. Analysts feel taking that figure to 10 million in five years’ time is challenging and at the same time achievable since the country has several tourist attractions.

Significantly,  the first two months of 2023 had seen tourist arrivals close to 300,000 from other countries as against 184,228 in January-February 2022.

During the pre-Covid-19 days, the annual arrival of international tourists to Kenya exceeded 2 million. In 2019, it clocked at 2.05 million, by far the best year as far as the tourist inflow was concerned in the history of the country.
